I had the honour of meeting the new members of staff on Saturday after their induction, due to the lack of management around. (They left me in charge for the weekend - fools) One of them never turn up for the induction. The other two seemed pleasant and enthusiastic, as I showed them around the department and gave them their hours for this week.
Roll on to today. One of them phoned in sick, the other one never showed up at all with no phone call or anything. I don't think I'll be allowed to meet new starters again. Hee. Maybe I scared them?
The night manager had a great phone call. Apparently one of the fresh prep staff rang in to say they couldn't come into work because they've just realised their car isn't insured. Like there aren't any buses or cabs in surbubia.
The FOTCR™ is coming. I suspect they've all got a job at somewhere that gives a staff discount.

Have spent the past few weeks revision for my OU exams. Hopefully I done well enough to qualify for the retakes next year.... If I've passed I'm a third of the way through a BSc (Hons) Natural Sciences degree. The geology exam was good, all the right questions. The Science Matters exam wasn't too bad either.
I am currently drinking a mug of Green & Blacks hot chocolate (yum) with a drop of Cointreau. I need it!
My course next year is going to be S282 Astronomy.

Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled
And the silk in a chestnut shell
Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled
All these things I love so well
So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget
To say a great big thank you
No, I mustn't forget.
Clouds that look like familiar faces
And winter's moon with frosted rings
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the milkman sings.
Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes go comfy though they're worn out and they're battered
And the taste of apple pie.
Scent of gardens when the rain's been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that's been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.
Eccentric contemplation from a twenty something retail supervisor, living in suburban London.
